Hello Friend,
The events of the past month including the conditions in Texas that affected our newest team member, on top of a year of global pandemic, have been heavy in my mind.
I realized that despite all of the first-world advances in the United States, we are all still at risk for our lives to be upended by unexpected disasters that our government or societal infrastructure cannot support.
So I have a new goal for 2021, or mantra if you want to be zen about it:
Be Prepared
Our team meeting this week discussed this goal. It's important to me that my team feels safe and prepared in their lives, and not only in their jobs.
We've made a new Slack channel for the team to discuss personal physical preparedness for disasters.
Since our founding, we've stressed to our team members the importance of a different way to Be Prepared: in case they personally have an emergency or disaster, so the company can still run and the rest of the team is secure. This includes documentation (articles in our own HubSpot knowledge base), backup plans, cross training, keeping our project management systems and Slack up-to-date so others can jump in and take over projects...any way we can think of to keep important information visible to the team and not just residing in one person's head.
What other ways can we be prepared, physically, mentally, financially, and professionally?
I'd love to hear the ideas and share them in our new slack channel!
