Work-Life

Stephany
Hello, and welcome back to the Remotish Employee Spotlight! My name is Stephany Russell, and I am a Senior RevOps Coordinator here at Remotish. Today we're talking to our newest employee, Michele Anderson and Michele is one of our Digital Project Strategists. We're super excited to have her on the spotlight today and on the team! Michele, can you tell us a little bit more about your role here at Remotish?

Michele
Hey Stephany, thanks so much for having me. I'm excited to meet with you today and chat with you. In my role with Remotish, I am a Digital Project Strategist. So what that means is I basically am a balance of project management and account management. I work with our clients directly and help them determine what their goals are and ways to best meet that in terms of optimizing HubSpot. I also work with our internal team, and deliver on all the promises that we make, working with the team and just pushing the project along and finding how best to solve the problems for the client.

Stephany
Cool! So an average workday for you, what does that look like?

Michele
Every day is a little bit different but for the most part, it is balancing client meetings with actually getting the work done. So some days I am a little bit heavy with meeting with clients, reviewing what we have accomplished, and determining the next steps to get to. Some days it's just head down and working.

Stephany
Okay, cool. So, I know, but the listeners don't know. Do you do a lot of technical work in HubSpot or do you leave that to the HubSpot Strategists? How does that work?

Michele
A little bit of both. I mostly manage from the big picture but I've worked with HubSpot for a couple of years now so there are a few things, that depending on my skill set I am able to accomplish. I also like getting in and working with HubSpot as well so it's a little bit of both.

Stephany
And what's your favorite thing or tool from HubSpot?

Michele
Oh my gosh, there's so much. I've been using HubSpot for like I said a couple of years now and I love any and everything that can be organized. One of my favorite things is how the tasks can be set up through queues, being able to organize my day, and all my tasks, sequences, set snippets, basically everything about the CRM, I think can really make somebody's day super-efficient and I love the organization and the shortcuts.

Stephany
Super. Yes, that's what I said. HubSpot CRM was always my favorite part of it because of the data being organized and being able to find things easily is my favorite part as well.

Michele
Right! Organization, and then being able to manipulate the data, it's all right there and I can look at it any which way without messing it up!

Life-Life

Stephany
So, switching gears - enough about work-life, let's talk about your life-life. What's the best thing about remote life for you? Because even before COVID hit we were all passionate about it.

Michele
I love the remote culture with Remotish, especially because I have actually always been remote in my career. So even before the pandemic, I've always worked remotely,  so I'm used to it and very comfortable with having my own space. I would say my most favorite thing is not having to commute but I also realized with my husband working remote during the pandemic that I've probably created some really odd habits. For instance, I'm a little bit of a Yogi so I like to move and be flexible, and sometimes I'm standing at my desk in a pigeon pose or just doing odd things.

Stephany
Funny! I love not having a commute, that's the best part and you need to teach me some yoga or at least get me stretching! I definitely need a routine.

Michele
I can for sure help you with that. I don't know how I've done it over the years but somehow I've modified pigeoning to a standing desk stretch, hamstrings, arm, shoulder exercises... I can do it all.

Stephany
Please slack me tips! So, do you listen to any blogs, podcasts, or groups that you would recommend our readers and visitors to follow or listen to?

Michele
I don't listen to a lot of podcasts. I love podcasts and I do listen to them, I just for some reason don't make them much of a habit. I do love TED Talks, I'm always getting lost in watching and listening to TED Talks. As far as podcasts, the ones I do listen to - Rene Brown is one of my absolute favorites, Malcolm Gladwell has a really good podcast, which I know are not HubSpot related but I follow some of the HubSpot blogs that are really great.

Stephany
So, when you're not HubSpotting for our clients and wearing your Remotish hat, what do you do? Tell us more about your life-life.

Michele
My personal time depends on the season - it's a little bit different but for the summer. I love to be outside and living in Portland, there's a long rainy season so you get out when you can. During the rainy season, I get into puzzles and I love reading - it's a great excuse to just cuddle up and do the things that I love indoors. During the summer it's paddleboarding, hiking. walking around town, and mostly just being outside as much as possible.

Stephany
Okay! Cool, I like that! Do you have any personal mottos or mantras?

Michele
One I have been really using a lot lately is: don't assume, just ask. I say that probably more as a reminder for myself and for everyone else too, but especially for myself. I find that we think it's almost human nature to assume things, it's like our brain wants to fill in the blanks. We don't know everything, our brain just tries to work to complete the story, and sometimes it can cause extra work, sometimes it can cause conflict. So, don't assume just ask. It's something I've been working on and it's basically my mantra right now. Just a reminder to take an extra minute to hit the pause button, and really just figure out what I really know about the situation - what I need to ask and clarify before really forming an opinion or taking any next steps.

Stephany
I really like that. That kind of hit home for me. So, tell us a little bit more about your guilty pleasures. Do you have any?

Michele
Oh, probably too many. Food for sure. When I say food. It's not food as in a foodie and I love to cook, I just live in an area that has such amazing restaurants. I think the guilty pleasure in it is dining out and the whole experience of going out and having the banter with the server and the atmosphere. I've realized through the pandemic and the shutdown how much I missed that.

Stephany
Very much so, that's a good one. I love going out to eat, anywhere. Do you have any unique talents?

Michele
I can do cartwheels! It's more of a challenge and the older I get, I keep telling myself that I have to be able to do cartwheels. I love doing random cartwheels.

Stephany
That's cute, I love that. Okay, so tell us more. You live in Portland and you love the food there. Tell us more about what you love about living there?

Michele
I live right in the city. I love the walkability of my area, and just love living in Oregon. Being right here in Portland, I've got the best of both worlds. I can have the walkability of a city and be close to so many things, and I can also get in the car and drive 15-20 minutes and have beautiful parks, mountains, and hiking. I'm an hour and a half from the beach and in the other direction, less than an hour away from the mountains.

Stephany
I need to get out to the West Coast, I've only been maybe twice in my life.

Michele
Well, if you ever make it over this way I would love to show you around.

Stephany
Well, that concludes today's Employee Spotlight. I want to thank our listeners for tuning in and I also want to thank Michele for sharing her interesting professional and personal journey with us today.

Michele
Thank you, I appreciate it.
