Work Life

Stephany
Hello, and welcome to the Remotish Employee Spotlight! My name is Stephany Russell, and I am a Senior RevOps Coordinator at Remotish. Today we're talking to one of our newest employees, Vicki Sonne. Vicki is a Digital Project Strategist, and we're so excited to have her on board. Vicki, can you tell us a little bit more about your role here?

Vicki
Sure. Hi Stephany, and thanks for having me. As a Digital Project Strategist here at Remotish, I assume the role of project manager/account manager, all in one. I work with clients throughout the week to help answer their questions, plan weekly meetings, and prioritize tasks and projects.. And then, on the Remotish side, I also work closely with the HubSpot Strategists and Implementation Specialists to strategize and complete work for all of our clients.

Stephany
All right, cool! That's a lot! So on top of all of that, what does an average workday look like for you?

Vicki
Well, I would say that each one is definitely a little bit different. Overall, I spend time each day reviewing each of the client accounts just to make sure that we're keeping on top of tasks and while I'm doing that review, we're updating meeting agendas and notes daily, checking on deadlines and tasks for us at Remotish, and also checking out monthly budgets for our clients who purchase our month to month services. Outside of that, I'm on client calls or working on those HubSpot certifications.

Stephany
Cool, those are always fun. What's your favorite HubSpot tool or your favorite thing about HubSpot?

Vicki
Well, there are so many cool things about HubSpot it's hard to pick just one. I've always been fascinated with HubSpot because I think it is such a powerful tool. But in the last couple of years, I was able to become more familiar with the HubSpot CMS. In a previous role, I was working with a custom CMS that was built and it was really hard to use, and changing over to HubSpot was really super easy and user-friendly so I'm excited to see where the CMS goes and how it grows and evolves over time.

Life Life

Stephany
Yes. CMS is very new to me as well. I actually took my CMS for Developers cert and spent too much time in it. It was a lot and oh my god this is so much information - but I'm excited to learn more about the CMS myself. So, switching gears a little bit. We've talked about your work-life. Let's talk about your life life. What's the best thing for you about remote life because I know we're all passionate about it, even before COVID Remotish was super big and heavy on remote work.

Vicki
Actually, I had never worked remote before joining Remotish. So it was definitely a change of pace for me but now that I've been working remote for a few months now, I love everything about it. Work is right here when I need it and I love being more efficient in comparison to being in the office setting. And also I love having the flexibility to work when it works best for me and my family, and I just think that's a really cool benefit.

Stephany
Big time. I love it so much. What blogs, podcasts, or networking groups would you recommend for our readers and visitors to follow, or read into and what are some of your favorites?

Vicki
Sure, I'm not a big podcast person, but I do follow HubSpot blogs and I follow their social media accounts pretty closely too. I think there's always something updating or something new coming out so I don't think you can go wrong with following HubSpot, whether it's on podcasts, blogs or social media.

Stephany
So, when you're not Hubspotting for our clients, what do you do when you're not wearing your Remotish hat?

Vicki
Outside of work, I love to spend time with my husband Mike and our son James. He's five and he just started kindergarten so he keeps us extremely busy with all sorts of activities. Other than that, I also do enjoy playing volleyball, and golf, and generally just being outside working in the flower garden or our little vegetable garden in the back.

Stephany
Oh, yes, you sent us pictures - so cute. What's your personal motto or mantra?

Vicki
Oh that's a good question. It might seem really simple, but I think my motto is treat others the way you want to be treated. I truly believe that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and it really doesn't matter how old you are or what your title is, or how much money you make. I think everybody deserves that baseline kindness and respect.

Stephany
I think people are starting to realize it more to look at everything that we've been through within the past year pandemic wise and everything so, it's great. I love that. What's your guilty pleasure?

Vicki
Food, I think it's food. I love all kinds of food, but I think my all time favorite guilty pleasure is a garlic cheeseburger with cheese balls and ranch. We probably gained a few pounds just saying that out loud.

Stephany
What is a garlic cheeseburger?

Vicki
It's, it's a big ole burger, but it's got a special sauce on top that's, that they call like a garlic or like creamy sauce and its so good.

Stephany
And like cheese balls like little cheese, chips?

Vicki
Yes, little cheese curds or cheese balls. Yep, dipped in ranch.

Stephany
Oh, okay. Interesting. Do you make this homemade or do you go to a restaurant and get it?

Vicki
Oh no, oh no. That's my guilty pleasure we eat out.

Stephany
Noted, what restaurant has that?

Vicki
Well here in the town that we live in, in South Dakota, it's called Willy's Sports Bar, and they have awesome burgers.

Stephany
I love burgers. Do you have any unique talents?

Vicki
I don't know if it's unique, but I did learn how to sew, embroider, and crochet when I was a little girl. I used to spend a ton of time at my grandma's house and that was something that she taught me over the years. I don't do much of it now with James running around, but I used to do quite a bit of the sewing and crafty things.

Stephany
Aw, that's cute. My grandma taught me how to crochet when I was younger, I used to crochet scarves and blankets with her.

Vicki
Awesome! I started off with potholders.

Stephany
Yeah, she started me off big - she had big projects. So, already we said you lived in South Dakota. Why do you love living there? How long have you lived there?

Vicki
Yeah, so I live in Watertown, South Dakota. Originally, I was born and raised on a farm outside of a very small town here in South Dakota, only had about 1000 people, but I moved to Watertown after college. In general, I love living in South Dakota and I'll probably never leave. I love the small town life, the friendly people, and the wide open spaces. And actually, being in the big city kind of gives me anxiety.

Stephany
Yes, a lot goes on in big cities.

Vicki
Because you're in Florida, right?

Stephany
Yes, I am in Florida. It's a lot down here - the weather's nice, but everything else could go.

Vicki
Yes, busy busy.

Stephany
Okay, well that concludes our Employee Spotlight for today. Thank you to our listeners that tuned in today and thank you so much to Vicki for sharing your professional journey and some personal fun facts about yourself with us today.

Vicki
Absolutely. Thank you Stephany, and thank you so much for having me.
